Great Gatsby Project Ideas
Choose one of the following projects to complete for The Great Gatsby.
Projects are due Friday, February 17, 2023.
1. Create a video for The Great Gatsby. You can decide to do a creative book review, a dramatic trailer, or a news segment about the events of the novel. You may have up to four members in your group to produce a 2-minute video project.
2. People Magazine’s "Love Triangle of the Year"—Produce a magazine feature in which you try to piece together the story of this love triangle from the various characters’ points of view. Your article should include comments by Gatsby, Tom, and Daisy OR Tom, Myrtle, and George. The main goal here is to understand the effect their actions had on each of the others. Be sure to bring out the major events of the story in some way. Your finished product should look like a magazine feature and include various pictures or whatever your creative minds can come up with! Look at some People Magazine articles for ideas.
3. Create a journal/diary for one of the four main characters. In that character’s voice (first person), you will create at least 10 dated entries (at least three paragraphs each) based on what’s happening at the time. This will allow you to comment on the major events of the plot. You might comment on the following: The first appearance of the character in the story, any meeting that your character has with another of the characters, any important event that occurs in the story, any physical/psychological changes in the character, where the character leaves the story. The story covers years in the character’s life so you will observe changes in the character’s acceptance in the community, the physical and/or mental condition of your character, and his/her relationship with the other characters. The main characters who will appear in your journal will be Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, and Nick Carraway. You may choose any of these as your “journal writer,” but all of them should appear in your journal.
4. Conduct research on the Roaring Twenties. Prepare a keynote presentation of at least TWENTY slides (including a title and works cited slide) about the lifestyle, beliefs, customs of the time period. Give specifics about the economy, science, technology, arts and literature, and anything else you find of interest in the twenties. Be sure to include photos and focus on the importance of SETTING in The Great Gatsby! Make a recording of yourself delivering the keynote presentation.
5. Choose a quote or symbol from the novel and depict it in a creative manner. Write a 2-page essay to explain its significance.
6. Come see me if you have an idea that is not listed above.
